The book takes us through a wonderful journey spanning over eight decades, starting from the childhood of Jim Simons, his early life, his brilliant achievements as a mathematician, code breaker for the US government and successful academician and through the years about the entire journey from the point he laid the roots of the companies and funds that later led to Renaissance Technologies and Medallion, the most successful investment firm the world has ever seen. In a world where intuition, gut feel, and experience played key roles in deciding what to buy and sell and when to do that, Simons was among the pioneers to use data from the past on a massive scale to optimize these decisions and was undoubtedly the best in terms of results achieved.

Renaissance is one of the most secretive companies in the world, and to pry open the details about how it manages to achieve stupendous returns year after year for over three decades was never easy, given the secretive nature of its operations and the ironclad nondisclosure agreements that bind the employees to discuss with outsiders. Mark Zuckerman has taken colossal efforts in getting the required information and has given us an immensely readable and informative book.
