Jessica Wyrd, pronounced Word, was orphaned at 12 and her life was turned upside down. Uprooted from a big city environment and pulled away from her friends, Jessica was forced to live with a pair of unpleasant grandparents in a small town in upstate New York. But on her 13th birthday, something happened. Jessica is transported to another world by three Lightmasters who believe she has special powers and is the only person who can defeat an invisible alien beast who feeds on fear. Back in the normalcy of her own world, her reality suddenly changes and she is forced to face her own fears in order to defend the human race against an invisible monster. Lightmasters Number 13 is an outstanding young adult novel. As life gets away from her, not wanting to continue yet unable to stop it, Jessica hides herself from family and friends in her strange new world. Told in a lyrical prose that’s almost poetry in places, I felt like Jessica Wyrd was telling her story to me in confidence. Lightmasters Number 13 is an engrossing page turner full of adventure and intrigue that makes the reader think on so many levels. The book is a must-read for teens and parents alike. It’s a testament to courage, to goodness, to strength, and to one little girl’s spirit by THMS on May 19, 2017

This is a very imaginative and creative story about a young girl, Jessica, who has been orphaned and goes on a magical adventure. Jessica is lonely and having a hard time adjusting to her new life when she begins to understand that things are not always what they seem. She learns many powerful lessons on her LIGHTMASTER journey that would benefit young and adult readers alike! by JudyBelle, Amazon Customer on 8-7-18

MG WELLS

A magical, fantastical tale that follows the equally fantastically named Jessica Wyrd. The reader is drawn through a fast-paced adventure which never seems to slow. Held together by the young protagonist, this is a story tinged with humour and nice touches throughout. Like all good fantasy books aimed at a younger audience, this should also appeal to an older reader, too, though not necessarily for the same reasons due to the books depth. If you or your child wants to be swept away with a smile on your face, then this is one of those books to do so. Fun and top marks...Richard, Amazon Customer

MG WELLS

A great fantasy adventure full of magical powers and suspense for all ages! There are heroes and bullies, mean girls, and geeks as well as villains, lizard humanoids, aliens, and general clueless folks. This may be written for the YA audience but the themes and message of forgiveness, courage, and overcoming fear are universal. "Your fear is bouncing throughout the universe, and the dark one can smell fear. It thrives on fear and all negativity." Against impossible odds, young Jessica, shows us how to believe in ourselves, our abilities, and our gifts. Would love to see Pixar roll the film! Amazon Customer = LL

MG WELLS

Jessica is a 13-year-old who has to live with her grandparents on the edge of a forest in upstate New York, after her parents are killed in a head-on. She is bored, lonely, smart and picked on in school. One evening she sees a light in the forest, goes to investigate and her world is never the same after. Entering a world like Alice in Wonderland, but with nature being the living and strange beings, Jessica meets Dragateen, Bo, Torcc and Bebinn, and does nothing more than become a Lightmaster and help save earth. In the process, she discovers things about her self she never wanted to see, and that many people are not what they appear to be, even those that are closest and dearest. If this book was made into a movie it would be pitched as a cross between Men In Black, Star Wars, and The Breakfast Club...Gabriel Constans

Although I am well over the target age group for this book, I really enjoyed it. It tells the story of Jessica, a thirteen year old girl, an orphan who lives with her grand parents. Starting life after the tragic deaths of her parents hasn't been easy and when it seems her birthday has been forgotten, well she wonders whether life is worth living. The day turns out to be very special for her after all however, when she is drawn into the magical world of the Lightmasters and finds she has special abilities of her own. A fantastic adventure awaits her and I am sure there will be more of them in future books. An exciting read whether you are thirteen or seventy-three. Well done to the author on reading a five star read...Brian Kitchen.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and love how the author has crafted an amazing, fantastical world. The character, Jessica Wyrd is a wonderful 13-year old who now lives with her grandparents, following the death of her parents. On her 13th birthday, the Lightmasters spirit her away to a magical world, believing she is special and has certain powers. I'll not give away any spoilers but it's an inspirational tale with a strong message and well worth reading. It's a fantastic young adult novel, told so well with beautiful, lyrical prose and such an imaginative setting and characters perfect for a fantasy story, with the right ingredients of monsters, intrigue and magic.
