While working as colleagues together at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida, in the 1970s, Love and Sterling accepted the task of teaching and operating a Carreer Guidance and Assessment Program (Career Gap) that served both the community college students and as a use for the general public. The assignment was to establish a career center that would furnish students information about appropriate careers that they might choose for themselves based on personality, interests, experience, educational preparation, and goals. Experience with groups and individuals soon allowed feelings of the students involved in the career center to surface at a variety of levels, which were centered on personal disturbances. Hours of study of what they were learning from students, suggested that the two counselors were tapping into genuine universal instinctive feeling intelligence, primarily focused in the gut area of the body. It was at that time that they first wrote a text for their classes about the gut instinctive responses that they were discovering with people they were working with in career exploration. They also during this time, developed the Somatic Reflection Process (SRP) on gut feelings to unite body-mind and used it with hundreds of people in the counseling therapeutic process.

Reflection on hundreds of others' personal traumas in counseling using the SRP, enabled them to critically look at what was happening in counseling methodology and medical discovery, particularly when dealing with a wide variety of personal and social problems of others. It is with their personal backgrounds and individual experiences, along with their own further clinical research on the Somatic Reflection Process, that led them through time to a more accurate, more satisfying, and a more stress free image of Human Nature, gut intelligence and the development of Intuitional Intelligence.
